This month has literally been a whole year wrapped into 31 days. I swear everything has happened. The biggest thing, of course, was going to Japan, which feels like it happened in a whole different life (how I miss it). Mind you, when I got back, I basically had a whole new love: in the space of a few days I got tickets to an Ed Sheeran concert, bought my first car and got another job. Wow. The school holidays we had weren't really holidays for me, as I was working for most of it, and when I wasn't working I was sleeping, and when I wasn't doing that I was trying to blog or watch movies. I never really got anything done, and then all of a sudden we started school this week. Now that was another thing - going back to school as Head Girl. It was insanely daunting, and already the work is piling (though I am on top of it). I don't even wanna get started on how crazy this weekend is going to be, but I will be seeing Silver Linings Playbook at the end of it (hopefully) since there aren't ANY showing times in which I can see Zero Dark Thirty in the next week. That makes me sad. Alas, here's my rather sparse film-viewing for the month, which is pretty alright considering I went ten days without seeing a movie.
Movies I hadn't seen before until the month of January...
American History X - The first movie I saw this year. A good way to start the year, methinks.
American Gangster - While we're on the subject of America. This movie was really good, if a little too long.
Detachment - One of the greatest accidental discoveries I've ever made.
Cosmopolis - I don't really remember much of this since I checked out around half an hour in. I just wanted everyone to shut up. I like how this movie has quite the fanbase, and I'm sad that I can't join it.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi - Decided I may as well give this a go before I went to Japan. It made me crave sushi. Until I actually had it...yeah, that wasn't my favourite.
Goon - Finally got to see this. Man, that was bloody. It was also bloody funny.
Pitch Perfect - Enjoyed this so much. It was annoying because everyone on the plane was watching it and when I was watching something else, I got distracted by the screens that were watching this movie.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - I cried. I got the soundtrack. I still cry.
Lawless - Jessica Chastain on the plane! This one was okay. Loved Tom Hardy's grunting in it. It was rather violent. Guy Pearce's character was annoying. And yeah, quite a few problems, but overall it was enjoyable.
Beasts of the Southern Wild - I'd like to watch this again some time, since watching it on the plane didn't really do it justice. Quvenzhane Wallis was really good.
End of Watch - I still can't get over this bloody movie.
Les Miserables - Thinking of doing a one man performance of this musical sometime this year. Will you all come see it? Thanks.
Lockout - Guy Pearce is hot in this movie. I wish he'd do another badass action movie like this...but with better material (it was still very entertaining though).
The Devil's Double - Still can't get over Dominic Cooper in this movie. And the fact that it is directed by the guy who directed Once Were Warriors. There's hope for us future NZ film makers!
Dazed and Confused - I didn't love it, but Richard Linklater is awesome.
Coriolanus - I reserved this copy in the morning and it didn't come back until 7pm. So I had to walk up to the shop in the heat to get it. I know Dannevirke ain't big but man, it was a hassle getting this movie.
Safety Not Guaranteed - This movie was so cool. Mark Duplass is one of my new favourite people.
Django Unchained - I cannot stop listening to that soundtrack. And I need to get my 'Team Waltz' t-shirts asap.
Not Suitable for Children - Decided to give this Aussie comedy a go. I liked it. Sarah Snook was so cool...and her character had the same name as me (that's a rare occurrence, let me tell you).
Birdsong - Just because I have a major crush on Eddie Redmayne now.
A Woman Under the Influence - A little long, but so tremendously good. The performances by Peter Falk and Gena Rowlands were just amazing.
Silent House - Well, that went slowly but then it escalated way too quickly. That was not a safe altitude.
360 - I have no idea what that movie was about.
Movies I've seen before but felt the need to watch again because I'm cool like that...
Bernie - Just because the trailer was getting to me at work so I had to watch it again.
The Lincoln Lawyer - Just because Matthew McConaughey.
Looper - Everyone was also watching this on the plane and it was distracting me so I gave it another spin. Absolutely love this movie to pieces.
The Help - After we went and saw Django Unchained I went and stayed with my friend and we decided to watch a movie. Always have to pick the Jessica Chastain one. Which was not a good idea because they thought I was weird when I got so excited when she showed up on screen.
What do you think of these movies? Did you see anything good this month?

December in Movies + 2012 Movie Watching Stats
So here we are, at the end of the year. I'll get more into the year end stuff tomorrow, but for now, I don't know how the hell it is December and there are only two days left of this year. This month has had an extreme high and an extreme low, and everything has been going kinda slow (I did not mean for that to rhyme), but I didn't get a whole lotta movies watched like I wanted to - I still have a little over 24 hours to get watching, including my only watch of Inception this year tomorrow before midnight. However, I'm working with what I've got now, and I'll also share some stats of my movie watching in 2012.
Movies I hadn't seen until the month of December...
Love Me Tonight - A 1932 musical I'd always wanted to see, and eventually found while strolling through YouTube. Man, I love YouTube. They always have the greatest discoveries.
Love Crime - It was on TV so I decided to give it a go, mainly because I am somewhat interested in the remake, Passion. This one was okay, but it was extremely frustrating.
Bernie - I literally sat through this entire film going "my lord, this is such a bizarre, but really good story". And then at the end I found out it was true. Probably one of the bigger "WTF" moments I've had this year.
Weekend - I adored this film. It was so well scripted and acted. One day I'd love to make something like this.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - So, this happened. It took itself way too seriously.
The Grey - I have a poster of this to put up in my room (because I always get Liam Neeson posters since he's my Dad and all...but I probably won't be getting one of Taken 2), but I don't want to take down any of my other posters. Ah, the times and trials of my life.
Total Recall - I honestly don't remember any of this. Which I guess is ironic...
Cheerful Weather for the Wedding - I saw it just because Felicity Jones was in it. She was lovely, but the film wasn't particularly memorable.
Vamps - I actually loved this film. It was so funny. And Dan Stevens was so adorable in it, too. But your adorableness in this movie doesn't make me at all happy about your recent decision...
Your Sister's Sister - I just love this movie.
Iron Sky - This also happened. How, I'll never know.
Take This Waltz - This film keeps popping up on 'Worst of' lists, which I think is a bit far, but a little unjust. It wasn't very good, yet it wasn't terrible. I did really like Seth Rogen in it, though.
The Campaign - A lot funnier than I thought it would be.
Starter for 10 - This movie seemed to have literally everyone in it: James McAvoy, Alice Eve, Rebecca Hall, Benedict Cumberbatch...oh, those Brits know how to make anything better.
Step Up 4: Miami Heat - The dance scenes were really good, but as always, the story and the acting wasn't at all feasible.
Bellflower - I wasn't all that taken by the story, but the cinematography in this was really cool. Plus, it was made for around $10,000, which is insane.
The Bourne Legacy - Man, I love Jeremy Renner. I didn't quite love this movie, but I did love Jeremy Renner.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - So, this was weird...
Hope Springs - Maybe it was just because I watched this the night after Grandma passed so I wasn't in the best headspace, but this movie was actually terrible.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - However, I did see this one straight after (ironically on the night before the world was supposed to end) and I really liked it. So maybe Hope Springs was just terrible.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - It was a shade too long, but it was so beautifully shot. Roger Deakins in the best.
High Fidelity - I will definitely check this out again, as I wasn't all that focused on it. I did like what I could understand, though.
The Expendables 2 - I'm actually sure that this is the US version of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Moonrise Kingdom - This movie made me very uneasy. Still, I quite enjoyed it, considering I'm not the hugest fan of Wes Anderson.
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - Decided that I may as well watch it, just to see a young Guy Pearce at work. He did not disappoint.
300 - Decided I may as well see it some day. As someone who isn't a fan of slow-mo, this didn't quite work for me...
Movies I've seen before but felt the need to watch again because I'm cool like that...
Love Actually - Because Christmas happened and this was the only way of reminding me of that fact.
21 Jump Street - Because I needed some LOLs and this movie has approximately 134 of them.
The Dark Knight Rises - Because it was Christmas Eve and that's always a good time to watch this movie, along with the other 364 days of the year.
Meet Me in St. Louis - Because it was Christmas and I watch this every Christmas.
Lost in Translation - Because I'm going to Japan in 9 days. Which is not something I get to say every day.
Interesting statistics of the year:
I've seen 404 movies all up (bound to go up to maybe 407 by tomorrow's end), with 361 different titles all up. I achieved my New Year's Resolution of watching 300 new-to-me movies, as I've seen 315 thus far. The first movie I saw this year was The Piano Teacher, the last will be Inception.

November in Movies
Just a public service reminder that tomorrow will be December. Which is the last month of the year. And when Christmas happens. Seriously, this sounds like a cliche but it literally does feel like just last week that we were hitting the 2011 festive season. I'm still getting over last year's Christmas to even think out about this year's.
Anyway, November has been a wild month. I've completed three exams, with one pesky Drama exam which decided to be the ONLY one in December in Dannevirke to go. All of this extra time from study leave has left me a little bored now, but at least next month I'll hopefully be able to earn some cash so I won't be so bored. These past couple of days have been a bit of a blur, with an article in the paper about the site, along with a radio appearance. And then yesterday I went to JB Hi-Fi and they were having a huge sale. Why, hello, special edition of The Dark Knight Rises with a Bane and Batman figurine for $40 and Downton Abbey season one for only $16. Speaking of Downton Abbey, that show broke my heart this month. Still haven't got over that. Alas...
Gone in 60 Seconds - Where last year's Christmas felt like a week ago, watching this movie seemed like ten years ago.
Lord of War - Same with this one. I keep forgetting that I watched eight Nicolas Cage movies this month.
Snow White and the Huntsman - Mirror Mirror is better. Unpopular opinion but at least Mirror Mirror knows where its target audience is at. And Lily Collins is a lot more charismatic than Kristen Stewart.
Friends with Kids - I liked this movie, but what I didn't like was that it tried too hard to have songs which went exactly with what was happening on screen. It was snowing, so there was a song about snow. That's also the reason I can't give We Need to Talk About Kevin top marks.
Annie Hall - Continuing to get into more Woody Allen films. I really liked this one.
A Royal Affair - One of the few previews that we get that I have actually heard of. I really like Mads Mikklesen.
Ghost Rider - Yeah...no.
Game Change - Instead of watching The Shawshank Redemption again for my English exam, I watched this. Responsible, I know. Still, I loved Julianne Moore's performance in this.
Arthur Christmas - So cute. Although I hate how they waited a year to release it on DVD.
Adaptation. - One of the few Nicolas Cage movies which is still fresh in my mind.
Killer Joe - Couldn't watch Magic Mike happily after seeing this film. Plus, I thought it was funny because I managed to watch this and Arthur Christmas in one night. Arthur was a G-rated, Joe was the worst of the worst R18 rated. LOL.
Dodsworth - My classic movie Friday's are making a reappearance. I have been looking for this one for ages, so I was really happy when I saw it on YouTube. I adored the script.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - Still don't get the reptile bits.
Face/Off - This was an extremely good movie.
Lola Versus - One of those movies where I just wanted everyone to shut up. I like Greta Gerwig, but she was so whiny and horrible in this movie.
Ted - So overrated by everyone my age. This eight year old came in and was like "ow we should get Ted out! It is SO crack-up gee!" I literally gave him the death stare. Then he realised it was an R16 so his Dad got it out for him.
Inside Man - My brain was so full of Biology knowledge that I couldn't comprehend this entire film, but it was so different to what I was expecting.
The End of the Affair - Just for Ralph Fiennes. It was nice enough, but it didn't really go anywhere.
The Heiress - Half because it was classic movie Friday, and half because I wanted to see it since Jessica Chastain is performing it on Broadway. It was really good. Olivia De Havilland is amazing.
Rent - I like musicals. This one was very different.
Wild at Heart - I'm still LOL'n at Nicolas Cage 'singing' 'Love Me Tender' at the end.
Magic Mike - I liked it. I loved Matthew McConaughey's performance even though I couldn't watch it because of Killer Joe. I'll get more in-depth whenever I find time to post my review.
Bel Ami - I just didn't even care about this movie. All it was was Robert Pattinson having sex all of the time. Which isn't really my idea of fun.
The Wicker Man - LOL.
Skyfall - My review will be up tomorrow, but wow, how beautiful was this film? That scene in Shanghai brought tears to my eyes.
Our Idiot Brother - Coz I felt like I needed to show it to my friends. It just tends to make you feel better about life.
Goodfellas - You know you've had a good day when you get the Blu-Ray of this for $5 and a two-disc special edition of Raging Bull for $3.
A Streetcar Named Desire - I still love this film dearly. Vivien Leigh is beyond great in it. Though it is so sad because this was basically her in real life, and in her voice you can hear the tuberculosis taking over.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. - Watched it with a friend. It is always funny to watch people react to the big 'twist'.
Mean Girls - Life is just generally better after seeing this movie for the billionth time.
Brave - I will vouch for this movie until the end of time. It is so good, but so few people realise that.
Mask - I found it for Mum's birthday, and she insisted on watching it. This movie still depresses me to this very day.
The Dark Knight Rises - I'm finding it harder and harder to vouch for this movie because so very few people like it. Oh well, I'll just sit here in my angry little corner alone.
What about you? Have you seen anything good this month?

October in Movies
All year I've been going on about how fast this year has gone, but it feels especially true here: it feels like just yesterday that I got my dog, and that we were rolling into exams. Mind you, October went REALLY slow. I'm not sure why that is, but I think it might be because the trailer disc at work was so crap and all I wanted was for November to come because there'll be a trailer for The Dark Knight Rises for me to cry over every hour. Plus, November is just about freaking July-worthy when it comes to DVD releases. Alas, I wave goodbye to October in all of its busy, slow glory and turn my head to November, where the exams will happen. And then we'll be at the end of another year. It seems strange. Here's all the movies I got to catch in October:
Movies I hadn't seen until the month of October...
Hick - Watched on very little sleep. But I doubt that's the reason why I didn't really understand where this was going.
What to Expect When You're Expecting - I know that I should have expected it (ba dum psh), but this somehow just keeps renting.
The Dictator - Yeah, this movie was funny...not.
The Evil Dead - I must admit, that trailer for the new remake was quite good.
The Raven - Honestly, I do not remember any of this movie.
Looper - An insanely cool movie. Haters gonna hate on the final act.
The Machinist - Watching a movie about an insomniac late on a Friday night when you're tired is unsurprisingly not ideal. While Christian Bale was good, I felt like this just tried too hard to be something it wasn't.
Manhattan - Ha, I did watch this this month. I thought I better get into some more Woody Allen. I really liked this one, but I must watch it again before I send it back.
Scream - Is it weird that up until now I had no idea that you could get popcorn in a little pan thingy so you could pop it on your stovetop? That's cool.
Suspiria - Mum and I were very disappointed in this movie.
That's My Boy - To think I watched this. And it wasn't even a short Adam Sandler movie.
Batman Forever - LOL at Val Kilmer being Batman. I never would have thought of that, and I still don't want to think about that.
Passion Play - I also can't believe that I watched this. That was such a bad week of releases.
Jeff, Who Lives at Home - Totally wasn't expecting for this movie to be so warm and heart-wrenching. It was nice.
Batman & Robin - LOL.
The Blair Witch Project - Probably one of the only horror movies I saw last month that actually scared me. I didn't really want to walk down my hall in my house to turn off the internet that night.
Mystic River - I didn't want to watch The Shawshank Redemption before my English exam, so I watched another Tim Robbins film to feel less guilty. It was a good choice. Plus, is it strange that I found Kevin Bacon really attractive in this movie? Dear lord what is wrong with me.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - One of the select few Tim Burton films I actually like.
L!fe Happens - Aside from that stupid exclamation mark it insists on having in its title, this movie was okay. I have a wee girl crush on Krysten Ritter.
The Deep Blue Sea - I really wanted to like this film. I really did. But I just didn't have it in me.
Prometheus - I'm so glad I didn't see this in cinemas. I yelled at the screen way too much.
Rock of Ages - I love musicals. I loathed this movie.
Domino - Is it wrong that the more I look back on this film, the more I like it? Sure, the style was a bit OTT, but you can't deny that what Tony Scott was doing was awesome.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Revisiting my Friday night black-and-white film thing.
Halloween - I think I just did everything in my power to make this film less scary because I was at home alone.
Retreat - Surprisingly good little thriller with my darling Cillian Murphy, and Jamie Bell being the bad guy. It just seemed a little lacklustre.
Margaret - Now I can say that I watched a three-hour movie on a Tuesday Movie Night.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Never thinking about it again.
Blue Velvet - Never thinking about Dennis Hopper in this again.
Poltergeist - Never thinking about this whole Poltergeist Curse business again.
The Amazing Spider-Man - Meh. Review coming tomorrow.
Attack the Block - Review coming on Saturday, but I loved the energy in this film.
Movies I've seen before but felt the need to watch again because I'm cool like that...
In Bruges - Introduced this to one of my friends. Still one of the funniest films I've seen.
Brick - I didn't realise how much I loved this film. It is so great.
Rampart - As part of that crappy week of releases, but I just wanted to check how I really felt about it since the first time I watched it, the disc was out of sync. My feelings hadn't really improved.
Hairspray - I'm on a bit of a Hairspray high again at the moment. The soundtrack is my latest fixture in my shower-sing-a-long songs playlist.
Piranha - It was on TV, so my friends thought we'd watch it for a laugh. We decided it wasn't a very nice film.
Fight Club - Introduced the same friend I introduced In Bruges to. Because I'm the best friend ever.
The Social Network - Hadn't seen this since the start of the year, and that was far too long. I love love love love love this movie.
What do you think of these films? Have you seen anything good this month?

September in Movies.
Wowsers. Tomorrow we'll be in double digits months. Is anyone sitting there wondering where the heck 2012 has gone? It honestly feels like just yesterday I was partying hard on New Year's Eve and watching Inception before the year ticked over. And now I feel like I haven't had the time to watch Inception in 2012. Jeez, I've had nine whole months.
Anyways, some of you will be pleased to see that this end of month post doesn't come with an announcement saying that I will be leaving you all for a few weeks. I take that as a sign of a new beginning. Lately, I've been so down on blogging, but I refuse to give up. I'm rolling straight into my third year of blogging in October, so it is going to be out with the old and in with the new. Which also means no more trying to be a film critic. This is a blog, and I'm going to endeavour to make it so. So if you don't like my really funny jokes, tough.
I have three weeks of "extended study break" (a.k.a. holidays with exams jammed on the end), four weeks of school and then proper exams after that. You'll have to bear with me, but I promise, I'll do my best to bring awesomeness to as many days as I possibly can. Now let's all hold hands and sing some ABBA songs. I feel like we couldn't get much more awesome than that.
Plus, I'm totally disappointed by how few movies I saw this month. I blame the show, and the fact that no-one wanted to release any new DVDs until last week.
Movies I hadn't seen until the month of September...
Badlands - Jeez, I watched that this month? Feels like ages ago. Alas, I did very much like this Malick film, which slides itself behind Days of Heaven and ahead of The Tree of Life. Plus, Sissy Spacek is awesome.
The Lucky One - Came out on my birthday, but didn't have time to watch it then. Yes, I still make a habit of watching Nicholas Sparks adaptations even though I know I'm going to dislike them. This was no exception.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen - I need to stop taking the piss out of this title. However, it was still a splendid little film. Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor were lovely.
The Darkest Hour - Watched this because it came out in like, May, and for some reason I didn't get 'round to it. If I wasn't such a completest, I wouldn't have to watch one of the worst scripts ever being put into play.
Margin Call - On the other hand, I watched this directly after The Darkest Hour and was pleasantly surprised by how great the script for this one was. And I actually understood this film. Which is a big deal.
W.E. - Had I left my best of 2011 lists til now, Andrea Riseborough would have been a sure bet to be in my top five favourite female performances.
A Doll's House - Watched it in Drama because we're performing an act from the play (by Henrik Ibsen) for our next assessment. Which reminds me, I must learn those bagillion lines.
Lars and the Real Girl - Decided it would be a good idea to watch this after a show, so I was up into the wee hours of the morning. Still, a very good film.
The Deer Hunter - My English teacher gave me this to watch, despite the fact that it is an R18. I liked it enough, but there were just too many flaws holding it back.
Notes on a Scandal - I'm actually terrified of Judi Dench now.
Man on a Ledge - Surprisingly, this movie was about a man on a ledge.
The Lady - I didn't really have much interest in this film, but I came out liking it.
The Woman in Black - This movie was actually kinda scary. Also, I have a feeling that Daniel Radcliffe might be onto something.
Batman - Got the entire series from work, and I'm slowly making my way through them. This one was okay, but I admit that it is hard to view them post-Nolan.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits - Actually loved this movie. It was so funny. You can't go past British humour.
This Must Be the Place - The best thing about this movie is that 'This Must be the Place' is my favourite song, and it played it so many times during this film. There was even an unbroken, complete run through the song. So while I didn't enjoy the film, I could still sing along with it.
Dark Shadows - See the 'review' for this film? That's the kind of stuff I'm going to be striving for in the future.
The Five-Year Engagement - I liked it, but I have a feeling that's because I love Emily Blunt. Although, this movie was actually kinda depressing.
Mirror Mirror - I'm not sure why so many people hated this film. I thought it was pretty good for a family film. And anyone hating of Lily Collins' eyebrows can go swallow a tea bag. She's beautiful.
Batman Returns - Liked this one a lot more than the first one. Michelle Pfeiffer's performance as Catwoman was perfect.
The Cabin in the Woods - 300th film of the year. And yeah, I finally got to see it. Admittedly got really scared, but I don't deal well with horror films. I would write a review, but so much has been said about it already so yeah, it was cool.
True Romance - It was actually a lot different to what I was expecting. And oh, Gary Oldman.
Movies I've already seen before but felt the need to see again because I'm cool like that...
Mulholland Dr. - Had to savour it before I sadly sent it back. What a marvellous film.
The Help - I have a feeling that this is my new "sick" movie...I always want to see it when I'm sick. Between all the coughing and snivelling and headaches, I was dying inside because I'll never be as lovely as Jessica Chastain.
Also, a big happy birthday to Ezra Miller! I don't know how I made it through an entire month without seeing any of his films. Anyway, what do you think of these films? Seen anything good this month?

August in Movies + Announcement (Yup, Another Break)
August has been a very strange month. It has pretty much been the slowest month out of the entire year (which means that it has gone at a normal pace, considering how fast this year has disappeared). Many cool things have happened, minus the fact that I had the flu earlier in the month. My birthday happened, and it was pretty awesome. Well, Saturday was very awesome. At work I managed to get a NZ zoned copy of Memento for only $2. Now I won't have to watch my US zoned copy which only plays in one of the many DVD players we have in the house (first world problems, I know). So yeah, I got home and my friends were casually sitting in my lounge and are all like "surprise!" Of course, I went into shut-down mode and broke down in excited laughter. They made me a Captain America cake. And this USB with funny stuff on it, and also a video of Ezra Miller which won't play on my computer but it is still awesome because it is Ezra Miller. It was a nice night.
While I've only been present in the blogosphere for a whole two weeks of this month, I'll have to be leaving you again. I admit, it is a little foolish of me, but the last break I had, I really needed, because I was about to explode. This time, I actually do have to break off from the blog. In five days, Little Shop of Horrors goes on stage. So, naturally, I can't be blogging as well. I was originally going to blog right up until the curtains opened, but I realised that with all of the rehearsals between now and then, coupled with the insane amount of school work due in for the next two weeks, some things will have to be shafted. Sorry about that - once this is all over you will have my attention. My full attention. Because you deserve it.
Anyway, here's the very few movies that caught up with in this slow, yet extremely busy month. I blame the Olympics for stuffing up most of my film-watching.
Movies I had never seen until the month of August...
The Awakening - The cool moment when you watch this film on a preview disc at the start of the month, and then find out that it has just come out in cinemas in America this weekend. Woohoo. I honestly don't remember much of the movie itself, but Rebecca Hall is glorious.
Project X - Worst movie of the year. By far. But somehow, along with Tumblr, this has become the latest craze to sweep the school.
La Dolce Vita - I've had this in my DVD collection for over two years, so I thought that while I had a spare three hours, I'd give it a go. I liked it enough, but it just isn't my type of film.
Every Day - Yes, I just watched this for Ezra Miller. It is the hormones talking.
Wrath of the Titans - Oh hey, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, are you trying to wipe the glorious memories of Schindler's List from our brains? This was terrible.
The Rum Diary - I wish that this movie was more fun. Instead, it was self-indulgent. Amber Heard is extremely beautiful, though.
Another Happy Day - I still cannot understand why people loved Ellen Barkin's performance in this so much. She annoyed me to no end.
Good Will Hunting - You know what I realised? I'm pretty much exactly like Skyler in this movie. Anyway, damn fine script.
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town - Was feeling in the mood for some old-fashioned comedy, and this was more than serviceable.
The Raid - I still can't get over how awesome this film was.
The Most Fun You Can Have Dying - ...and I still can't get over how good this film was for a NZ film.
Afterschool - Oh, Baby Ezra, how I miss thee. I just wish I wasn't so darn tired while watching this.
Mulholland Dr. - FINALLY got to see it. And I loved loved loved it. I'll have to give it another watch before I send it back.
Down to the Bone - An indie film directed by Debra Granik (Winter's Bone) and starring Vera Farmiga in one of her earlier roles. I didn't love it, but I did love Vera's performance - which kept me going throughout the entire film.
Carnage - So much fun. And the perfect length for an after-rehearsal film.
Battleship - I need to stop making jokes about this film. But considering how bad it is, it kind of deserves it.
A Dangerous Method - I'm not sure what to think about this film. It just...wasn't all that interesting to me. But Keira Knightley's jaw thingy...wow.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - My first film as a 17 year old. Sat down by the heater and watched it with a cup of tea. I am the definition of classy.
Goodfellas - Had the day off school, so after doing a huge lot of homework, I decided to watch this for the first time. I loved it.
Contraband - Missed out on it last month because I couldn't fit seven movies into my crazy movie night. I should have left it on the shelf. The constant zooming in and out was beyond annoying.
All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) - Watched this in English for our WW1 study. Was probably the only person in my class who really liked it.
Gattaca - Borrowed this off another English teacher because everyone in the other class watched it for their film study. I really, really, really liked this film. That said, I haven't gone into the little "film study" details.
Movies I've seen before but felt the need to watch again because I'm cool like that...
We Need to Talk About Kevin - Made my friends watch it because Ezra Miller is hot. And guess what...THERE WERE NO EARTHQUAKES! Such success.
21 Jump Street (x2) - I actually love this movie. So much so that I've seen it twice this month. It gets laughs out of everyone (apart from my Dad, who thinks it is "sick").
50/50 - Made my friends watch this, too. I love this movie.
The Muppets - I was sick, so what does one little Stevee do when she's sick? Watch The Muppets for a bagillionth time, of course! It is the best medicine ever.
The Dark Knight Rises - Saw it, and loved it, a second time. Cried so much. In fact, in class today, my friend and I started crying over the end again. We need help.
It Happened One Night - Funniest movie ever. Hands down.
Shame - Got it for my birthday, so sat down last Friday and got sad over it again. In class we were talking about movies that have had an impact on our lives, and I was going to pick this one, but then I realised I would have to explain why it had an impact on me. And I don't even know why. So I just chose Requiem for a Dream.
City Island - Watched it along with 21 Jump Street at my surprise birthday party. Things got a little crazy whilst watching this.
The Avengers - Since we had a half-day at school, we got together and watched The Avengers. I like it a lot less than The Dark Knight Rises, but it is filled with priceless moments that make me light up like the sun (and most unoriginal simile goes to...).
So, I guess I'll see you on the other side of two weeks. Keep being awesome! And while we're at it, did you see anything awesome this month?

July in Movies + Break Time
Surprisingly enough, by the time I finish watching The Lorax tonight, July has been my biggest month for movie watching. In January, I saw 45 films, and this month, I did one better. Which is strange considering I didn't have any school in January at all, but in July, I had two weeks of school holding me back. The reason that I've been watching so much is mainly due to the fact that July was probably the best month for DVD releases that I've EVER seen. Seriously, the week I watched the least new releases in was the third week - and I got to see four movies. It goes without saying that July was a fantastic month, particularly because I finally got to see my darling The Dark Knight Rises and the Olympics have started. Despite the fact that it is my birthday next month, I can't see August being so cool. There's only like one release a week (apart from on my birthday, where there's a huge burst), and I'll be poor because every man and his bloody dog is having a birthday. I mean, even my dog has his birthday the day before mine. Anyway, here's how July went:
Films I had never seen before until the month of July...
Howl's Moving Castle - There's not a lot that I can remember about this, apart from Emily Mortimer's voice. I really like that woman.
Higher Ground - I honestly don't think that this has rented once. Oh well, I should be glad that we at least got it.
My Week with Marilyn - I still don't get how Marilyn Monroe supposedly had a fling with someone as inexpressive as Eddie Redmayne was. He was such a bore.
This Means War - I admit to enjoying this. But I still can't process Tom Hardy being in this and The Dark Knight Rises in the same year.
Sleeping Beauty - The amount of people who have picked this up expecting it to be some porno...
We Need to Talk About Kevin - I really wish that earthquake didn't happen halfway through this. I'm so paranoid now.
Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope - So I sat down in the holidays and finally gave this a go. I liked it more than I thought I would. I should really get to the rest of the series.
Maid in Manhattan - What was Ralph Fiennes doing in this movie?
Grave of the Fireflies - Excuse me while I go and have a little cry over this...
The Girl who Leapt Through Time - Time-leaping would be very helpful right now.
50/50 - The first of my crazy movie night. I'm really pissed that my blu-ray version that I got off Amazon in February worked. I can't believe I had to wait until July to see it.
Like Crazy - My friend and I love Felicity Jones. She's so purdy.
J. Edgar - So much bad makeup! So little lighting! Ugh, to think this movie was on my wall of 'movies I want to see'.
The Skin I Live In - I can't believe I tricked my Dad into buying a foreign movie for the shop. Unfortunately, it didn't work for A Separation.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - When I watched it I really didn't like it. I think that was just an after effect of it being after 12am and having watched so many movies. Now I think that it was okay.
John Carter - It wasn't so bad.
Rebel without a Cause - The extent of my homework in the holidays. I had to watch this for a class.
Paprika - LOL wut?
Millennium Actress - I can't believe more people didn't recommend this during my anime month. It was awesome.
21 Jump Street - Watching this after having multiple injections numbing my mouth wasn't very wise. It made it too hard to laugh.
London Boulevard - I honestly can't remember any of this film.
Headhunters - Oh Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, you're so good-looking. This film was really entertaining.
The Decoy Bride - I wish my accent was like Kelly Macdonald's.
The Dark Knight Rises - Stuff you all, I freaking loved this movie.
Spirited Away - I wish I could have paid more attention to this.
Aliens - It was good, but it wasn't as good as Alien. I don't know whether I should venture into the rest of the series.
Rampart - Wait...what was this movie about?
The Big Year - Not funny enough to be a comedy, not dramatic enough to be a drama, but still pretty okay. What a cast, too.
Haywire - I was so disappointed by this film. It was so dull.
Wanderlust - This movie was refreshing. I don't know how, but I felt refreshed after seeing it.
The Sitter - I was in the mood for an R-rated comedy, but unfortunately this one didn't suffice.
Martha Marcy May Marlene - So different to what I was expecting. But so good.
Akira - It was very interesting...but I should probably see it again.
Earrings - Alex Withrow is now in my list of reasons why I want to become a director. I really liked his short film. You can watch it here.
Little Shop of Horrors (1986) - I finally saw the musical version. The ending was so happy. Our play looks so depressing. But still, it is going well.
The Lorax - I'll be finished it soon, so I guess we'll shove it on here.
Films I've already seen before but felt the need to see again because I'm cool like that...
The Artist - Watching this with my friends was the funniest thing ever. We made it into a story about a man's love for Subway and a (really immature) remake of Shame. Because we're cool like that.
Drive - Wow, a lot of people die in this movie.
Memento - I freaking love this movie, to the end of the Earth and back.
The Prestige - Writing an essay about the revenge theme in this film is seriously the hardest thing ever. And now I have to 'connect it to society'. I need to talk to Chris Nolan about it.
Following - Oh gosh, the Batman sticker in this. Chris Nolan knows.
Insomnia - I guess I was having a bit of a Chris Nolan marathon?
Batman Begins - Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy were so unbelievably awesome in this film.
The Dark Knight - If I could do one thing before I die, it would be to see this on the big screen again.
We Need to Talk About Kevin - I mustered up the courage to watch this again so I could write an essay about the revenge theme in it (I'm so clever). While there was another earthquake, I appreciated it a whole lot more. And I'm so attracted to Ezra Miller in this film. It is so bad.
City Island - Yes, I rewatched this because it is the only Ezra Miller film I own. I loooooooooove him. And this movie is pretty cool, too.
Anyway, as you're all well aware, here comes the hour where I hang my blogging hat up and let it collect dust for a little while. Why? Because there's only so much this 16 year old can take. School is so busy that it has to spill into what little free time I have left, and that free time is taken up by the blog. Which doesn't leave me to do many normal things. And for once, I want to do normal things. So I'm taking a little while off to catch my breath. And once I feel that I've done that, I'll pick up my dusty blogging hat. Therefore, I can't tell you exactly how long I'll be, but I can at least promise you that it won't be terribly long before I start feeling a bit empty. Sorry for the melodramatics - but that's how I'm feeling at the moment.

June in Movies
Wow...half way through the year already. Our school term has just finished, but unfortunately the workload hasn't weakened. When I'm not working, I'll be doing homework. But I have set aside A LOT of time to watch all the great movies that are coming out in the next two weeks (seriously, in the second week of the holidays there are SEVEN films I want to see coming out). However, as this month draws to a close, I can't help but feel it has been the best month I've had in a long time. Apart from the crappy weather, a cool beach trip with friends, the LAMMYs, the DemPod Battle Royale and the Matineecast turned up to make everything better. My movie watching wasn't too bad, considering that every single day of this month has been filled with school work. I am a time management queen.
*P.S. My time management skills aren't always the greatest. If you're expecting an email or something back from me, I'm slowly getting there...just need some room to let off some steam.
Movies I hadn't seen before until the month of June...
The 400 Blows - Yeah, I didn't love this as much as everyone else. It wasn't a bad film...it just didn't do a lot for me.
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) - Watched this in preparation for my co-directing gig since I couldn't find the musical version. For something shot in two days, it was pretty good.
Albert Nobbs - Honestly couldn't see what was wrong with it. Brendan Gleeson's beard was just too impressive.
Our Idiot Brother - I wanna give this movie a huge hug.
Safe House - Confession: the music used in this trailer is so badass. I really do love it when they use hip-hop songs in trailers. Though it is weird that the trailer for this and the trailer for The Great Gatsby have the same music.
Chronicle - Dane DeHaan is one guy we ought to watch out for in the future.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - If I could be Catherine Deneuve then that would be great.
Alien - So awesome, but didn't get me excited for Prometheus. I have the sequel in my bedroom, can't wait to watch it.
Breathless - After watching this I read a little bit about Jean Seberg's life. Pretty horrific, huh?
30 Minutes or Less - Looks like Jesse Eisenberg isn't having the best run after The Social Network. Have you seen the poster for this? It is SO Photoshopped.
The Vow - Yes, I liked this one. In fact, I've pretty much liked all of Rachel McAdams' romances. Take away my cinephile card if you must.
The Ides of March - I have the poster for this up in my room at the moment. It is nice to wake up to Ryan Gosling's face every morning.
Vivre Sa Vie - Oh I wish I could be Anna Karina too. These French New Wave films have given me major girl-envy.
Raging Bull - Can't say I loved this as much as everyone else but ahahaha, they're making a sequel to it. Weird.
Au Hasard Balthazar - I can't look at donkeys in the same way since Balthazar haunted my dreams a couple of weeks ago.
Straw Dogs (1971) - Okay, perhaps I shouldn't have watched the remake before this one. It just didn't sit well with me at all. Dustin Hoffman was great, though.
One for the Money - Double this with coming across people being mean to other people and man does your night suck.
La Luna - Seriously the cutest short movie I've ever seen. Now every time I go outside at night my eyes are always directed towards the moon.
Brave - I'm still obsessing over Merida's hair.
Memoirs of a Geisha - I borrowed this from my friend on the night of the ball...which was in December last year. Thought it was about time I gave it a watch, huh?
Hiroshima Mon Amour - Eh...
Jack and Jill - How do movies like this happen?
Happy Feet Two - I'd love to say that my mind was fully on this movie, but it wasn't. For one thing, it was too dull for me to be interested in, and for another thing, I was helping a friend with his speech. Because I'm kind like that.
Shame - Oh, you should have heard me crying during this one. I don't even think it was crying, actually. I was basically screaming and heaving. It was a hideous sound.
Jules and Jim - Add Jeanne Moreau to that list of French New Wave-induced girl-envy.
Movies that I've seen before but felt the need to see again because I'm cool like that...
The Muppets - For a movie night (with the BEST FEED EVER, which we're gonna do again tomorrow). I got so excited over this movie the third time around I just about keeled over. I wish I could say I was joking.
Warrior - Wow. This movie. Many tears were shed at the end of this one.
Shaun of the Dead - But that's okay, because we watched this one straight afterwards. Oh, Edgar Wright, you beast.
Cemetery Junction - Watched this out at the beach. We all kinda agreed that they should use this movie in our English class. May sound unpopular, but we have our reasons.
Kick-Ass - Hadn't seen this in ages, so I felt deprived of Mark Strong's awesomeness.
Moneyball - I actually really really like this movie. Even though I haven't the foggiest of what baseball entails.
Shame - So the day after I saw it for the first time, I begged my friend to see it so we could chat about it. Next thing I know she's at my house at 9pm (on a school night) and we watched this movie that we've been talking about for the past nine months. Because we're cool.
Three Colours: Blue - I decided as soon as I woke up this morning that I should stay in bed and give this another spin. So beautiful.
What do you think of these movies? Seen anything good this month yourself?

May in Movies (and LAMMY news!)
This month has been good, but it has also been bad. More than anything, it's been extremely busy, though. Too much school work, no spare time. Which is why I haven't been watching that many movies. And unfortunately, writer's block came for another harsh visit.
However, the end of the month has been filled with so much joy you have no idea. Early yesterday morning, I had a few tweets at me congratulating me for some LAMMY nominations, but no-one stated what they were. So I had to rush around the house downloading the podcast and then listening to it. In amidst all of that, I jumped around every time I got a nomination, only just remembering that I had to actually get ready for school. Part way through straightening my fringe I heard that I got nominated for Best Blog. I mean, come on guys, Best Blog? Me? Part of that category? Wow, I'm humbled. I honestly can't believe you thought of little old me down in Dannevirke (which you haven't heard of), New Zealand (which you most likely haven't heard of). I was so excited that I told anyone who listened, and a few teachers spread the news to other people I don't even know. So thank you, guys, the town's abuzz (yeah, I know I take it too seriously). Anyway, catch the full lineup here, but here's what I'm nominated for:
-Best Rating System - Hehe, you like my The Room rating then? I totally think that Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob should take this, since poor old Nick can't get Best Blog Name any more. Also in contention is Go See Talk, French Toast Sunday and 3 Guys 1 Movie.
-Best Awards/Festival Coverage - I really appreciate that my little Annual Awards Nerdism was remembered here, but it's nothing compared with Never Too Early Movie Predictions, The Matinee, Bonjour Tristesse or Big Thoughts from a Small Mind.
-Best Running Feature - Again, I really appreciate that a few of you thought of A Conversation With... in this one (and sorry it's taking the week off). Duke & The Movies' Battle of the Directors, Fogs Movie Reviews' Movies that Everyone Should See, True Classics' Pioneers of Animation and my personal favourite Rachel Reel Reviews' Saturday Sims Screenshots all provide tough competition.
-Best Design - Wow, I'm really glad I spent one whole Friday at home to reinvent my blog, because not only am I really happy about it, a lot of other people are too. I really don't stand a chance against the widgety ones from The Matinee, French Toast Sunday and Man I Love Films. And I especially don't stand a chance against Sati's amazing Cinematic Corner. Seriously, vote for her.
-Best Blog - I don't care if I don't get any votes in this category, I'm just happy to be nominated. I mean, I realise that I'm the Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close of the race, but I'm totally cool with that. Man I Love Films, The Matinee, Anomalous Material, Fogs' Movie Reviews, FlixChatter and The Droid You're Looking For are all great sites, and all very worthy of winning this award.
Anyway, things I've seen this month are...
Movies I hadn't seen until the month of May...
Tyrannosaur - Despite my pleading, my father wouldn't order this for Blockbuster. Which is a shame. Then again, we are the shop that is only getting one copy of The Artist. Someone send me funding so I can pay for an extra three copies? I can't seem to convince anyone that it won Best Picture.
We Bought a Zoo - This was kinda cute, but it was too long and the music wasn't so great. What the hell was up with Elle Fanning? She was nuts in that movie!
Dead Man Walking - I don't know why, but Sean Penn makes me uneasy.
Amelie - Yeah yeah yeah, I only just saw it. I liked it a lot. Such whimsy. Amelie has just about the same outlook on life as I do.
Children of Men - This movie was bloody brilliant. In fact, I just can't believe that there was a movie like this was made so recently.
Restless - This movie gave me such grief. I tried to watch it on my laptop before I watched War Horse, but it wouldn't work. So then we just watched War Horse, which ran on quite late. So I tried to watch it in my bedroom, but it wouldn't work. After all that, it worked in the lounge...but I didn't enjoy it very much.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - Too much slow-mo. Too long. My dog was far more interesting.
Straw Dogs - I have the original one in my room. I'm going to watch it soon. I just feel like I've been a little too heavy on the rape movies lately. (by the way, this one wasn't so great.)
The Hunter - Surprisingly entertaining, for an Australian film. Willem Dafoe is another guy who makes me uneasy.
Cleo from 5 to 7 - Yeah, this is the kind of movie I watch on a Friday night while everyone's out partying. I loved it. Plan to review it next week.
Heathers - I will not let go of my campaign to get Winona Ryder a good comeback.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - People keep asking me about this movie, for some odd reason. And then I just go crazy about how complicated it is. Anyway, I really like the poster I have of it by my bed now.
Leon: The Professional - It was funny seeing Gary Oldman play a quiet good guy and then a weird bad guy in the same week. What an actor.
The Artist - Ha, it finally came to the local cinemas last week. It'll be out on DVD next week. Again...someone please send me funding so more people in Dannevirke can see it?
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Yes, I saw this for the first time this month, too. Wow, Jack Nicholson is quite an actor.
Dolphin Tale - This reminded me of the really bad movies that were on at midday when I was a kid. Which dragged it down for me. While we're at it, why was this in 3D?
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - Ummmm, yeah. You know it was a bad month when I watched this.
Mr. Nice - Just to see my darling Christian McKay. He was in it for about 20 minutes. YES. It was quite a good movie, too. Rhys Ifans rocks.
Pina - I like dancing, but this was a strange movie. I guess it is quite interesting seeing 'experimental' movies.
Young Adult - The more I think about this film, the more I like it. Charlize Theron is awesome.
Movies I've seen before but felt like watching again because I'm cool like that...
Me and Orson Welles - I'm gonna keep beating the Christian McKay drum until we can make a band (hahaha).
War Horse - I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I need to get a T-shirt screaming that out to the world.
The Muppets - Going to watch this again tonight with my friends. So excited. I'm gonna sing along to all the songs.
Hugo - Can't say this held up too well on a rewatch, but Helen McCrory was awesome in this.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - After watching this again I can't stop listening to the soundtrack. Has everyone seen the packaging for this DVD? Isn't it the awesomest thing ever?!
The Descendants - I admit to liking it a little more this time round, but I don't understand why everyone loves it. Plus, Shailene Woodley and Judy Greer were a million times better than George Clooney. Just saying.
What about you? Seen anything good this month?

April in Movies
Okay, so this month has been marginally better than last month. There was barely any disappointment to be had. We had holidays, which were good apart from the fact that I had to work just about every single day of them. The month has closed off with my mother going for an operation and now I have to look after her (I'm such a good daughter), and a trip to the city yesterday to see some avenging and do some shopping. And hey, I've bought five DVDs in the past two days (Thor, Crazy Stupid Love, The Fall, Days of Heaven and Before Sunrise), so I'm back to doing what I do best.
Next month promises to be awesome, though. Particularly because every week of next month has an awesome movie coming out. I'll get to see my beloved War Horse and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo again!
Movies I had never seen before until the month of April
The Rite - Exorcism movies really aren't my scene. At all.
Project Nim - I need to see this film again when I don't have such a cracking headache that I had to have a nap at 6pm. Jeez that was horrible.
Real Steel - Got this for mother today. One of the things I like about her recuperation period is that I get to choose her movies.
Battle Royale - I was glad that I watched this at the start of the holidays, but now I'm back at school I'm convinced that someone's going to throw us into a battle royale and we'll see the worst in people.
Mission: Impossible - Ahaha, in drama me and my partner have based our play around Mission Impossible, but it is more of a comedy version. I get stoned. It is hilarious.
The Fall - Preeeeetty.
The Fountain - Also pretty, but I didn't quite understand it on only one watch. I'll revisit it in a few years.
Machine Gun Preacher - Didn't the Kony 2012 campaign kinda flop? Awkward. Maybe they should be marketing this slightly messy film a bit more.
Chicago - I like musicals but I can't say I enjoyed this film very much. Still, they should make more pretty films set in the 1920's/30's.
Days of Heaven - I can't believe I found this at JB Hi-Fi. I was just looking for it as a joke (since it is out of print here) and there it was. I was so happy.
The Round Up - I think I had a nightmare about the events in this movie the other night. It wasn't pleasant.
Mission Impossible 2 - All I remember about this film were the Ferrero Rocher's I was eating while watching it. Those things are nice.
Heartless - I don't know why I decided to pick up this British horror (I don't watch horrors), but I'm kinda glad I did. I quite liked it.
Mission Impossible 3 - LENS FLARE!
The Son of No-One - It was seriously impossible to find a story in this film. I don't know why Juliette Binoche was in it, either.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Was actually okay, but this is coming from someone who doesn't watch horrors. Guy Pearce needs some better roles, though.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - If it wasn't for The Avengers I'd still be obsessed with this movie. I hadn't had that much fun with a movie in a long time.
Cloverfield - Why the hell did I miss this back in 2008? It was actually awesome.
I Melt with You - Lord. This movie. Someone came up at work with a couple of comedies and asked what else he could get with them, and then said "what about that movie with melting in the title?" Before I had time to think I pretty much yelled at him "DON'T GET THAT MOVIE!" I'm so happy no-one's rented it (that sounds awful).
Toast - I hate movies that have nice looking food in them because they make me hungry.
Tower Heist - It was okay but I've kind of forgot it exists.
Les Miserables (1998) - I borrowed this from my friend's dad back at the start of December, along with Memoirs of a Geisha and The English Patient. Figured I'd better make a start on them. This movie was okay. I still wish Liam Neeson was my dad.
New Year's Eve - I admit, I enjoyed it, but it was still vile.
The Iron Lady - Working on my review which will be up on Wednesday. Didn't enjoy it that much.
The Avengers - Me and my friend (we've been looking forward to this movie forever) were so pumped about this today at school. We actually started tearing up about the end of Captain America. We're like, equal to The Hunger Games fandom but only much cooler.
Movies I've already seen before but decided to watch again because I'm cool like that.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - I do love Tennessee Williams adaptations. Paul Newman is so sexy in this one.
Romeo + Juliet - Oh gosh, I love this film. The soundtrack is cool, too.
In the Mood for Love - Gave it a second look. Quite liked it, but I couldn't bring myself to reviewing it.
Titanic - Cool night out at the movies. But I must say, my favourite part of the night was the $5 pizza (how does that even compute in a place like NZ?!)
Days of Heaven - Because I thought I was never ever going to see it again for the rest of my life. But thanks to JB Hi-Fi, I won't have to feel sad when I send it back.
The Adventures of Tintin x2 - I saw it twice, once before I depressed myself with I Melt with You and once with my friends. Stuff the haters, this movie is great fun.
Midnight in Paris - Had so many (pretty depressing) movies to watch, but decided to see this again instead. So I'm going to watch a couple of those depressing movies tonight.
How about you? Seen anything good this month?
