Personality Soup, or the Movie Characters I'm Like

I've seen this been done at a few blogs, like Andy Buckle's Film Emporium, Defiant Success and Being Norma Jeane. So like the sheep that I am, I've decided to follow suit. Mainly because I have tried to start some reviews, but I'm so tired at the moment I literally can't write anything that makes sense. So here we go, easy cure for a mild case of writer's block.

Olive Penderghast in Easy A - Okay, now this is minus the whole pretending to be a slut for money thing. I really only chose her because I want to be just like Emma Stone. No, that's only partially true. Like Olive, I use lots of big words in every day conversations (though I don't have the wit that she has). And I wish that John Hughes directed my life. We're actually really alike, I'm sure we could be best friends in a better life...

Jenny in An Education - Like Jenny, I'm pretty smart (apparently) and I'm constantly pushed to do my best in things I really can't see helping me in the future. But really, all I want to do is have a little bit of fun (though I probably won't go as far as being swept off my feet by an older man) - which is probably why I watch movies. And then I fail at school because I'd rather watch movies. Oh well, just gotta keep pushing on...

Nina Sayers in Black Swan - Maybe I just wanted to have Natalie Portman on this list. Haha. No, the thing I have in common with good old Nina is my constant drive for perfection. I want perfection everywhere, whether it's schoolwork (apart from the subjects I suck at), this blog (I don't know how that is working out so far) or just life in general. I have such an unnecessary drive for perfection that I'll probably harm myself trying to get to it.

Melanie Hamilton in Gone with the Wind - I have a bit of Scarlett O'Hara in me, but I'd like to think I'm a bit more like Melanie. I've been told that I am pretty considerate, unselfish and kind. Which is something that I work hard to be. I'd probably give away my wedding ring if it meant helping a certain cause. In fact, I'd be right up the front helping a good cause. My motto in life is 'always think of the other person', so pretty much everything I say or do has the other person in mind. Just like our dear Melanie.

Rebecca in Please Give - Another character whose pretty unselfish is Rebecca in Please Give. She gives all of the kindness in her heart to everyone else and doesn't leave any for herself. She's really just too busy caring for everyone else to even worry about what may be going on in her life. I'd love to think that I am generous too. But as far away from being selfish as I can get, the better off I'll be.

Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada - Along with my kindness comes a complete inability to stand up for myself. Now, there's no Miranda Priestly type figure in my life, but I work too hard and sometimes that means that I am forced into decisions that I don't want to make. Any person would fight for their right, but not me. I just back out and run for the hills or go with it. Usually the latter. Oh, and I like to write, so I guess we have that in common.

So there's my personality, what's yours like?

15 Questions Meme

The lovely Anna over at Defiant Success made this new meme up. It's simple, she gave us 15 questions, now you answer them. So here are my answers:

1. Movie you love with a passion.

Yeah, I know Gone with the Wind isn't my absolute favourite movie of all time, but I will throw a fridge off a cliff if I find out someone doesn't like it.

2. Movie you vow to never watch.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww x10000000000000.

3. Movie that literally left you speechless.

My friend started talking to me as the credits rolled and I just started crying. God I'm strange.

4. Movie you always recommend.

Working at a video store, it's my job to recommend the latest movies. But really, I hate recommending movies. However, in order to be my friend, you must have watched Juno. I guess that counts as a recommendation.

5. Actor/actress you always watch, no matter how crappy the movie.

Proof: I watched Amy Adams in Moonlight Serenade last night. At that time she was a two-time Oscar nominee. What the hell was she doing in that film?!

6. Actor/actress you don't get the appeal for.

Johnny Depp actually kinda scares me. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE NORMALLY!

7. Actor/actress, living or dead, you'd love to meet.

Like, Jeremy Renner just seems like a really chill guy. I mean, when he's had enough of walking down the red carpet, he just kneels down on the ground and poses like a boss. He must be a real bad-ass too, because he always is in his movies. And he's pretty sexy.

8. Sexiest actor/actress you've seen. (Picture required!)

I couldn't pick just one. Andrew Garfield is an obvious, since I've been obsessing over him since I saw The Social Network. Leonardo DiCaprio is just King Sexy. And, well, as for Jon Hamm...how is he even alive? He's such a good looking man, it almost hurts to look at him. I don't even watch Mad Men, so I'm basing all this love for him around The Town.

9. Dream cast.

I don't know what kind of movie this would make, but I'm just combining all of my favourite people at the moment: Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Olivia Williams, Jesse Eisenberg and Rebecca Hall.
10. Favorite actor pairing.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet = It never gets old. Make another movie, or better yet, get together!
11. Favorite movie setting.

Sweden. After watching Let the Right One In, you have no idea of how much I want to go to Sweden.
12. Favorite decade for movies.
I love movies from the 1930's. And the 1940's.
13. Chick flick or action movie?
As much as I'd love to say action movie here, I love watching chick flicks. They're bad, but they're easy to watch.
14. Hero, villain or anti-hero?
Anti-hero. I love my anti-heroes.
15. Black and white or colour?
I love black and white, but colour does a lot more for me.

So, if you made it down here, then it is your turn to do this quiz!

A Life in Movies

Movie bloggers across the blogosphere are taking part in the new (and very cool) meme over at the Fandango Groovers blog, and of course, I had to join. It's simple...you name your favourite movie from each year starting with the year you were born. This is easy for me, as I haven't lived very long!

1995 - Toy Story
Perhaps the best animated series of all time started the year I was born. I am so thankful for this movie!
Runner up: Se7en

1996 - William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
This film introduced me to Baz Luhrmann, one of my favourite directors. Some may find the visuals to be a bit much, but I love this movie.

1997 - Life is Beautiful
This movie is so funny, yet it is so sad. And it's a war movie, too. As the title suggests, it is indeed beautiful.
Runner up: Titanic

1998 - A Bug's Life
Fun fact: This was the first movie I remember seeing at the movies.
Runner up: Following

1999 - Fight Club
I think this would be most people's picks for 1999.
Runner Up: American Beauty

2000 - Memento
Christopher Nolan + backwards story-telling = My favourite movie of all time.
Runner Up: Requiem for a Dream

2001 - Moulin Rouge!
I love lavish movies. More so when they are made by Baz Luhrmann and Ewan McGregor is singing.
Runner Up: Shrek

2002 - 28 Days Later...
Probably the best apocalypse movie I've seen. Cheers Danny Boyle!
Runner Up: About a Boy

2003 - Kill Bill Vol. 1
Four words: I love Quentin Tarantino.
Runner Up: Love Actually

2004 - Mean Girls
This is probably the movie which I have seen the most. It just never gets old!
Runner Up: The Aviator

2005 - Brokeback Mountain
I haven't seen this film in five years, but I remember it being one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
Runner Up: Batman Begins

2006 - The Devil Wears Prada
The clothes. The Streep. The funnies.
Runner Up: Little Miss Sunshine

2007 - Juno
"Oh, you think you're so special because you get to play Picture Pages up there? Well, my five year old daughter could do that and let me tell you, she's not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed. So why don't you go back to night school in Mantino and learn a real trade."
Runner Up: Waitress

2008 - The Dark Knight
The day that I saw this film was a day which I remember better than any other day.
Runner Up: Let the Right One In

2009 - Inglourious Basterds
Five chapters of pure amazingness.
Runner Up: An Education

2010 - Inception
The three times I saw this in cinemas were the best days of my life.
Runner Up: The Social Network

Listing My Love - 100 Things I Love About Movies

I saw this idea on the excellent film blog The Dark of the Matinee (if you don't follow this blog, what is wrong with you?!) and decided to take the idea for myself. That makes two 'meme' type things in a week. But I think this one may just be the awesomest one circling the web at the moment. So, *deep breath*, here is a list of the 100 things I love about the movies that take up all my spare time. The full list is after the jump.

1. Knowing the piracy ad at the start of every DVD I watch off by heart.

2. The words 'A Film by __________' coming up on the screen.

3. Guessing the trailers before movies at the cinemas.

4. Christopher frickin' Nolan

5. Christian Bale's dramatic weight loss and gain for every role he takes.

6. Big crane shots.

7. Black and white movies.

8. When the screen goes black at the end.

9. Little funny lines in otherwise serious movies.

10. Mila Kunis' voice.

My Cinematic Alphabet

I found this thingy on Tom's blog (Movie Reviews by Tom Clift) and it would seem that it's making a comeback. So, naturally, I'm going to join in. It's just a shame that I haven't seen any movies starting with X according to my IMDb ratings page. For those not in the know, basically the drill is that you have to pick your favourite movie starting with each letter of the alphabet. Apart from X for me, of course.

A is for An Education

B is for Batman Begins

C is for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

D is for The Dark Knight

E is for Enchanted

F is for Ferris Bueller's Day Off

G is for Gone with the Wind

H is for Hairspray

I is for Inception

J is for Juno

K is for Kick-Ass

L is for Let the Right One In

M is for Memento

N is for Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror
