Link Pass

Does anyone else believe the weather just gets you down? At the moment, there's a storm covering NZ. Dannevirke being Dannevirke, we've caught all of the gale force winds, which have been joined by torrential rain. Needless to say, I've spend most of these horrible days freezing. And yeah, since the weather has been crap, me old life has been a bit on the sad side too. I just found out that I have a throat infection, and I shouldn't be at school, but I have tests to finish. To go with the sickness I've just been feeling crap about everything, and the old Nina Sayers syndrome has kicked in...I'm all depressed coz I can't be perfecto. So yeah, that's my ramblings for the day. Hope you're all happy!
Anyways, by the end of tonight, I will have watched eight films in the past 36 hours. Yesterday I watched Lost in Translation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Love Birds, Hereafter and Unknown. Tonight I'm watching Beastly, Hall Pass and Rango. There...I should be set for the week.

So while I watch beauty turned beasty, Owen Wilson go wild on his week off, and cute little chameleons, read these:

I took quite a shine to There Will Be Blood, and it seems themoviesnob did too, sharing his favourite scene from the movie.

Univarn of A Life in Equinox has given us all a life lesson...he's a philosophical man!

Andrew at Encore's World of Film & TV examines the opening scene of one of my favourite films, Revolutionary Road.

My dearest, and most amazing fellow blogger Cherokee at Feminising Film wrote this inspiring post about her childhood hero, Trinity from The Matrix. I have to thank her for two things: giving me something lovely to read at 2.30am when thunderstorms were scaring me from my sleep, and for being my almost-childhood hero!

Matt from Matt's Film Reviews has reviewed Midnight in Paris, which has succeeded in making me jealous and want to see it more.

An early review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II from Alone in the Dark was overwhelmingly positive. Kinda makes me wish that I watched the series...I'm missing out on something which looks completely epic (in fandom terms).

Brittani at Rambling Film reviewed La Vie En Rose, which features an absolutely stunning performance from Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf.

Film Intel quite liked Animal Kingdom, one of my favourite films from last year.

The Large Association of Movie Blogs reached 1000 followers...and somehow I don't think the blog who scored 1000th spot was completely coincidental...

I've been hearing a lot about NZFF film Hobo with a Shotgun lately, and it seems The Mike at From Midnight, With Love, really enjoyed it.

Inglourious Basterds, my seventh favourite film ever, is reviewed by Anna at Defiant Success, who also happens to think that Michael Fassbender speaking German is overwhelmingly sexy!

Guess who loved Blue Valentine almost as much as me? Tyler at Southern Vision, who is braving some of the snow that has come with this storm covering old NZ at the moment! Have fun with the weather, brother!

James from Cinema Sights gives an interesting insight into Somewhere, a film which is loved by some, but hated by many. I personally loved it, but I can see why people may have different opinions to me!

So yeah, have fun with those links, and hope you have a lovely week!

  1. Thank you for the link and the kind words, Stevee! I've said it before and I'll say it again, without you and your awesome blog, I would have never got into this writing on my own blog business, so I have to thank you. I can tell that the only conversations we shall end up having now is just thanking each other, hahah. But seriously, you are awesome! (Refraining from saying thank you again.)

LOVE Lost in Translation. It was my favourite Coppola before Somewhere came round, and I adore LIT, so that's saying something.

Saw Ferris a couple of months back for the first tme and really enjoyed that one, too.

Really want to see Rango! Jealous that you have managed to catch that!

You know, Beastly isn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be, which scared me the most about it.

I mean, it is still pretty bad, but the scene in the living room was quite well done in the awkward way, except the whole thing was way to rushed.

When Hudgens is like "My father is in hospital, I have to go now", that was when it kicked into terrible mode for me. The wooden acting in that scene, jeez.

I guess the fandom of Potter is nice (the feeling that a lot of people have been inspired by J.K and the Potter series), but in film and book terms, they're just kind of "meh" to me. I definitely prefer the films over the books(I mean Azkaban was actually a pretty good film, other than that, I can live without them.

The good thing about Potter is it got a generation into reading, plus the films gave people jobs for like 10+ years.

Still, it was entertaining enough. I should be ashamed of saying that, but I am strangely not.

It was kind of a given it wouldn't have a patch on Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bete and Disney's Beauty and the Beast, though.

  3. Thanks for the link! Hopefully the weather will calm down soon enough. 'Hopefully' but not 'likely.' In a way, I'm glad it's like this, because it gives me an excuse to stay inside, watch movies and blog. I mean, what else is there to do here outside of work?

  4. Bad weather? what bad weather?? No kidding it is windy here but the sun is out!! A beautiful mid-winters Hawkes Bay day!! Even the nights have been quite mild considering the amount of snow that's fallen elsewhere.
Harry Potter tommorrow, brought my ticket several hours ago!!!

  5. Cherokee - I'm so glad I have been a good influence on you! Oh, we have been such merry influences to each other. Thank you! (x100000000)
I loved Lost in Translation to bitty bits. Probably just a bit more than Somewhere. I just have The Virgin Suicides to watch now, and then my Sofia Coppola filmography will be done. I love her films.
I first watched Ferris last year in class, and then I bought it and I watch it regularly. Probably one of my favourite comedies.
    Rango is awesome!
I didn't find Beastly that bad either. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. And yeah, it was a bit rushed. Mind you, I wasn't complaining since it was 83 minutes long and I had two other films to watch that night. It fit in quite nicely.
I'm glad that Harry Potter got kids into reading (apart from me, since I don't like reading but if I do read it's always a book that I've seen the film adaption of or a classic novel). I mean, they're frickin long books, but anybody can read them (I guess). So yeah, we have a lot to thank J.K. Rowling for.

Scott - I want more reviews from your 6 year old!!!!!!!!

Tyler - Well, the weather has calmed down now. I'm just glad the thunderstorms are gone. I do like rainy weather though, because then I feel less guilty for staying inside and watching movies all day.

Brent - Just because it's always fine up in the Hawkes Bay! We only just got snow on the Ranges today, which has made everything ten times colder, even without the rain.
