30th October 2009

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) was on television a week ago, but I didn't watch it because I was wasting my time watching What Just Happened? So I got this movie out from Blockbuster and went to go watch it on my portable DVD player, and it wouldn't work. After several tries and trying different DVDs, it didn't work. I did end up watching it though, and managed to stay up until 11.30pm (not an easy feat for me). Trust me, it was worth staying up that late to watch this movie. As you may know, I am a bit of a chick flick fan. So it was inevitable that I would like this film. Kate Hudson has always been a bit iffy for me, because she has always been so famous and is constantly in the magazines. After watching her in Bride Wars, I didn't know what to make of her acting (Bride Wars was reaaally bad). Matthew McConaughey has also been the same. Mainly because in every magazine almost every single week he is pictured with his shirt off. Is he an actor or not? I remember watching a show when they were reviewing his latest effort, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (really need to watch that movie), the reviewer said 'he can't act to save himself', but he didn't say it like he meant in a bad way. This may be true, but I think both Hudson and McConaughey were great in this film. Andie (Hudson) is a journalist who decides to write a piece called 'How to Lose a guy in 10 Days', and picks Ben (McConaughey) as her candidate. What she doesn't realize is that Ben is in a bet where he has to make a girl fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie's mission is hilarious to watch, but the ending is a little predictable, even right from the start. I just loved this film, because it was so funny, mainly on Hudson's part. It is a must-see for chick-flick lovers, and maybe some guys too.
8/10
