Feeling like...(this was the best week of my life!)

Okay, so this is a post more about me rather than movies (that sounds so vain, but my week needs to be shared). It wasn't really the week of my life, as that was last week on camp, but anyway, this week has been filled with some amazing achievements...

Sunday: (late addition, but Hatter was offended)
I was on the LAMBcast! Got to chat with five other guys: Fletch, Steve, Kai, Hatter and Nick, who were all pretty shocked upon finding out that I was a 15 year old girl from New Zealand who loves Christopher Nolan and is a published writer. Pretty fun times, that convo was! Apart from the fact that I suck at 'Last LAMB standing'. Just because I didn't know many Ewan McGregor movies (and there was a bloody The Men Who Stare at Goats poster in my room! Godammit). Make sure you give it a listen when it comes online!

Monday:
Last week of school! Not much really happened apart from the fact that Inception arrived at work early so I could look at it. I didn't get it out though, because I planned to watch The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Killers that night, and I did. Now I will forever regret that decision.

Tuesday:
We had the most boringest field trip ever, but when school finished we rushed down to get Inception to watch it the day before it came out on DVD. Not only that, but my review on the film was posted in the local paper (see below), and it was pretty much bigger than any other review I have ever had. I've already had some great feedback on it, which is really good.

(The bottom is cut off a bit...it was too big for the scanner! But yeah, I wrote that.)

Wednesday:
The morning was great. I'd been pestering my parents to drive me and my buds over to the neighbouring city so we could go and see Easy A. Mum finally agreed. Then, after me just saying once that I didn't have a lot of money to buy Inception, she said she'd give me the money to buy it as a Christmas present. Mainly because she understands that I love this movie so much and I couldn't live without it until 25th December. Gosh, I love her so much. She understands my movie obsession better than Dad. So, after school, we went up and got our copies of Inception (we being me and my best buds). I went home and refused to watch it. I did watch Me and Orson Welles, and then thought I might just watch the special features from Inception. Then I found myself watching the whole damn thing. I am going to draw the line when I start watching it five times a week.

Thursday:
Last day of school. Woohoo! Last day of being a junior. WOOHOO! At the Junior prizegiving, I got 'merit' certificates for Science, Information & Communication Technology, and Visual Arts. I was so surprised about the Science one, since the teacher hates me because everything I do has to have a strong connection to movies (Christopher Nolan made it into a project about the brain), and I'm not particularly good at Science either. I also got a certificate and voucher for winning the Year 10 speech finals, for my enlightening speech on Facebook. When I walked off the stage, I was secretly thanking Mark Zuckerberg.
We got to leave school early since the prizegiving practise only took 25 minutes, so me and more of my buds went to the 'Fantasy Cave' (a.k.a. the best thing in Dannevirke) to see Santa and some other displays of Christmassy stuff. That was really fun!
Then it was time for the big prizegiving for the whole school. Now I was maybe expecting some class awards for Drama, and maybe the Year 10 English cup. I ended up going home with class awards for Social Studies, Drama, Information & Communication Technology, and Visual Arts Printmaking and Painting. When it came time to give out the top of the class awards, I wasn't really expecting that much. My name was called, and then the guy reading out the names told me to walk slower since I got quite a few awards. Not only did I get the Year 10 English trophy (I was expecting it because I got it last year and English is the only thing I'm really good at), I also got top of Year 10 Social Studies. And, by some stretch of the imagination, I topped Year 10 Visual Arts. For one thing, I'm useless at art, and also, I'm not taking art next year. There were so many people who deserved it more than me. But I topped it, and I can't help but feel proud of myself. They were three major achievements I will never forget, and man, I feel happy about them.

All the stuff I picked up yesterday!
Friday: Sitting here, writing about my week, which you may be reading. Sorry, it's not amazingly movie related, but we have to mix it up, don't we? What's in store today? Hopefully screenings of I Am Love and Splice (and maybe a rewatch of Ince-no, stop.). Also, our annual trip to McDonald's and water fight down at the park, and a goodbye to one of our good friends. Oh, and catching up on all of the blogging I have been missing!

Anything exciting happened in your neck of the woods? Or do you have any achievements you're super proud of? Tell me in the comments...

Week #9 in summary...! Killing carrots, killing Bill, killing boxes and killing romantic comedies...

This week is all about killing? You better believe it. Just a shame I didn't happen to watch Killers this week. By the looks of the trailer, it looks like the movie lives up to it's name. This week has changed things for the blog, and I hope you are liking it. Because I am. No need to leave any comments though. Coz chances are you ain't wasting your time reading this.

  • Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) I'd just about forgotten how much I love Quentin Tarantino, but this film just dragged me back on to the band wagon. I still love you, QT. 8/10

  • The Box (2009) Boxes will kill. Come to think of it, it's like some sort of game show...'the money or the box'? Honestly, they shouldn't do that. Bad taste, I'm sorry. 6/10

  • Brothers (2009) It has good actors...just a shame it was a tad boring though. 4/10

  • A Single Man (2009) Thanks Tom Ford and Colin Firth. My heart is still broken. But you still made one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. 10/10

  • The Rebound (2009) I don't like romantic comedies. But somehow I liked this one. I think that may have been coz Justin Bartha is so cute in this. 6/10

  • When in Rome (2010) I don't like romantic comedies. And I hated this one. Mainly coz it was particularly unfunny even though it had funny people in it. 4/10

  • Whip It (2009) I want to try roller derby. But I'm way too un-coed to do that. Ellen Page would so whip me. 8/10

  • Shoot 'Em Up (2007) I have a newfound respect for carrots now. They are lethal weapons. And maybe I like Clive Owen a little more now?? 6/10

Best movie: A Single Man. Even though I dislike how sad it made me.

Worst movie: When in Rome. Romantic comedies have never looked so bad.

Highlight of the week: Passing a maths test I never thought I would pass because I didn't get it.

Lowlight of the week: Having to stay home from school because of some major headache...which I have had for four days and still counting...

Week #8 in summary...! Cillian Murphy week, Part II

Wow...up to week eight already?! Just as a pre-warning, not this coming week, but the week after (12th-19th??), A Movie a Day maybe taking a break. Don't worry, I will make up for it with an extra week at the end. And I will still manage to watch a few films. Reason? Got the job of doing make up for the local production of Les Miserables, and probably won't have enough time in the day to get a movie in. This could be subject to change, though.
Anyway, I watched a few more Cillian Murphy movies this week, and I think there are very few left to dig up in the future that I still should watch. I think it's fair to say that Cillian Murphy may just be my favourite actor...yes, right up there with Leonardo DiCaprio.

  • The Edge of Love (2008) This movie I watched a year and a half ago, and clearly overrated it. Upon the second, more educated watch, the rating was slashed in half. 4/10

  • Insomnia (2002) I have now watched every single Christopher Nolan film. And enjoyed every single one of them. Yeah, he is God. 8/10

  • Red Eye (2005) Sit buy an impossibly cute guy with amazingly gorgeous eyes on a plane, who seems a little stalkerish? He's trying to kill your Dad. And there's not a lot you can do, Rachel McAdams. 6/10

  • Watching the Detectives (2007) Cillian Murphy does comedy. And is good at it. Are their any ends to this guys talents? No, I don't think so. 4/10

  • Boy (2010) New Zealand actually does make good films. Boy should be getting Oscars...10/10

  • Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) This film has to be the most beautiful piecce of cinematic art...ever. 7/10

  • Adventureland (2009) Kristen Stewart makes pot cookies. Jesse Eisenberg gives away a giant-ass panda at knife point. Yup, this movie is preeeeety interesting! 8/10

I think you can sort the best from the worst in this group of movies. It's just a shame that the Cillian movies I watched this week weren't as good as last weeks round.

Highlight of the week: Hmmmm...no real highlights spring to mind at the moment. Oh, I did get my driver's license!

Lowlight of the week: The weather has been so cold and miserable for 'Spring'. And I guess I should say something about the Christchurch Earthquake. No city is more beautiful than that place, and I hope with all my heart that it comes back to normal.

Week #7 in summary...! Cillian Murphy week, Part I

I watched a few Cillian Murphy movies this week, with some other films thrown into the mix. Oh, Cillian Murphy week runs into next week too...so many movies, not enough days...

  • The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006) My first R15 for my fifteenth birthday...just a shame that for my 16th birthday I won't be watching my first R16. I think that happened when I was like 10 years old...6/10

  • Mean Girls (2004) The. Best. High. School. Movie. Ever. Oh, it's one of my favourite films of all time too. 10/10

  • Inception (2010) The third and probably final time I watch this movie in a while. This blog features some pretty intense actor/character stories, so definitely read this if you have seen the movie! 10/10

  • Dear John (2010) I don't think watching this after watching Inception did it any favours...but it's a Nicholas Sparks adaption, so how could I possibly like it?! 4/10

  • Breakfast on Pluto (2005) It is still really bothering me that Cillian Murphy is a much prettier girl then I will ever be. Someone should really get me some blue contacts one day and I might have a chance. 7/10

  • Sunshine (2007) Cillian Murphy saves the world! And scares me off R13 movies for the rest of my life. 8/10

  • Cold Mountain (2003) One of the most down to Earth romance movies I have ever seen. Otherwise, what I like to call the R16 version of Gone with the Wind. 10/10

  • Ocean's Eleven (2001) Filled with Hollywood's cool cats and all the fun one with a bowl of popcorn could hope for...8/10

The best week ever. Yes, that is because Cillian Murphy was in most of the movies I saw this week. And I got to watch Inception again with all my friends.

Highlight: Duh. Going to the city with my friends for my birthday.

Lowlight: My actual birthday? Nah, it was a pretty good week for me.

Week #6 in summary...! This week has been filled with Jason Bourne...

This week (well now it happens to be last week, sorry for my little break away from blog-land) I got another trilogy done and dusted, the Jason Bourne trilogy! And I actually enjoyed them more than I thought I would.

  • The Bourne Identity (2002). I now like Matt Damon. I think this movie had enough guns and bombs to give me a headache...a good headache (do they even exist?) 8/10

  • The Bourne Supremacy (2004). I still like Matt Damon a lot more. This movie, however, was definitely the weakest of the lot, which was a bit of a shame. 7/10

  • Kick-Ass (2010). Wait, that's not a Bourne movie. Never fear, I did watch the last one, but I had to squeeze this cracker in. I loved this movie so much that I gave it...10/10

  • The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). The final movie was probably the best, and this just proves that Matt Damon may just be the best action star ever. 8/10

  • I, Robot (2004). A movie that I probably wouldn't have watched but I had to because we were watching it in Social Studies. I don't actually know what we were supposed to learn from it, but I liked it. 6/10

  • The Matrix (1999). Like, this movie is awesome. Those visual effects were amazing. Just a shame that Keanu Reeves can't act. 9/10

  • Date Night (2010). The funniest movie I have seen all year after The Last Song. 8/10

This week has been pretty good, considering that 100% of the movies are actions.

Highlight of the week: Birthday gathering, watching Date Night. Haha, funny times.

Lowlight of the week: Being sick just before my birthday and having to stay home=(

Week #5 in summary...! JGL, devilishly gorgeous clothes and Playboy bunnies?

This week was probably a bit better than previous weeks have been to me. Or was that just three rewatches of some of my favourite movies??
Recap on what I watched and blogged:

  • The House Bunny (2008) Anna Faris playing a dumb Playboy bunny who takes some nerds under her wing. Sound stupid? It is. 4/10

  • Iron Man (2008) Robert Downey Jr. at his best in an awesome superhero movie that doesn't really have a 'superhero'. Haven't seen it? Please, for the love of God, go get it out! 10/10

  • Clash of the Titans (2010) Proof that 2010 has failed in giving us lots of high quality blockbusters? Look no further than this. 4/10

  • The Butterfly Effect (2004) Even though Ashton Kutcher isn't my favourite person in the world, I still enjoyed this confusing thriller. 7/10

  • Waitress (2007) One of my favourite movies of all time...and also the movie that makes me the hungriest. 10/10

  • The Devil Wears Prada (2006) Also one of my favourite movies of all time...and a movie which makes me get some major wardrobe envy. 10/10

  • Back to the Future: Part III (1990) It was about time I watched the final installment to the trilogy, right? 6/10

  • Brick (2005) Joseph Gordon-Levitt...need I say more? 8/10

Best movie of the week? Non-rewatch...definitely Brick.

Worst movie of the week? Clash of the Titans. Yawn.

Highlight of the week? Start to 'birthday season'!

Lowlight of the week? Being sick for the six zillionth time this year.

Week #4 in summary...! Miley Cyrus isn't my favourite person at the moment...

This has been a mixed bag week with no particular stand outs. But there was one film which kinda stood out...in a bad way. Find out which one it was, and the other films I watched this week, here:

  • Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) The big screen version of the small screen phenomenon. And the Godmother of Chick Flicks. This is a film for the ladies. Stay tune for the review of the second film (did. we. really. need. one?) in the future. 6/10

  • Green Zone (2010) One of my rare unreviewable movies...I can't say I was captivated by this guns ablazing Iraq tale starring Matt Damon. 4/10

  • Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010) The most charming family film, just not as magical as the first installment. But oh, the loveliness of Maggie Gyllenhaal. 6/10

  • The Last Song (2010) One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Mainly because it has two of my most hated things in there: Miley Cyrus and it's a Nicholas Sparks adaption. If Greg Kinnear wasn't in there I probably wouldn't have survived. 2/10

  • The Bounty Hunter (2010) Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler...actors on a downward spiral. They seemed to prove that in this movie there is no way they are going to reach the top ever again. 4/10

  • Inglourious Basterds (2009) Probably the only truely great movie I have watched all week. And that was a rewatch. I forgot how much I loved Quentin Tarantino as I have been distracted by Christopher Nolan. 10/10

  • The Notebook (2004) The most romantic of all movies. I don't particularly like romantic movies. This is my first and probably only conversational review, too...

I know what the worst movie is...The Last Song. However, I'd say Inglourious Basterds is my best movie of the week, but if we weren't talking rewatches, then it would have to be Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.

Highlight of the week: Figuring out what I was going to do for my birthday...go see Inception again! And also waitressing (or eating all the food) at the local Ladies Night.

Lowlight of the week: School. Over it.

Week #3 in summary...! Apart from Nolan rewatches, I really like bombs this week...

Hello my dearest readers. This is me, Stevee, apologizing for my lack of non-Nolan movies this week. Okay, I rewatched three, but I have to apologize for it! It's okay if you want to shoot me or something...
So...what did I watch this lovely week number trois??

  • Inception (2010) Yes...three long days after the first time I watched it. And guess what?? I'm going to see it again for my birthday in a couple of weeks. I am still pretty excited over it! (My friends: "She is obsessed with it. She is going crazy.") 10/10.

  • (500) Days of Summer (2009) One of my favourite movies of all time. And because I am so behind with my blogging (here's the thing, I have internet in one place but not the other...it sucks), I just posted a crappy video review I did a while ago. I would prefer it if you clicked the link that goes to my actual wordy review. Reason for watching this?? Ah, Joseph Gordon-Levitt *swoon*. 10/10

  • Daybreakers (2009) Not a rewatch. I'm amazed too. A pretty cool vampire flick that makes me pretty scared about the future. I'm not ready to become a vampire!! 6/10

  • The Hurt Locker (2008) The winner of Best Picture. Yes, it is better than Avatar. But not better than Inglourious Basterds, District 9 or Up in the Air. Hell, Kathryn Bigelow sure did deserve that Best Director though. She runs rings around those guys who think they can do Iraq war films! 8/10

  • Speed (1994) A total kick-ass movie. Bloody loved it from start to finish. Oh...and Sandra Bullock. WIN! 8/10

  • Batman Begins (2005) Christopher Nolan is amazing. That isn't the first time you've heard that on this blog, right? I liked Batman Begins a lot better with the second watch...10/10

  • The Dark Knight (2008) Beware: this is a lengthy review. I did apologize at the beginning of this post...10/10.

Okay, so all my rewatches got perfect scores...I'm not going to do Best Movie and Worst Movie because there isn't really a clear deserver of either of those categories.

Highlight of my week (non Movie a Day): Christopher Nolan night at my friends. Or going to see Inception with my friends (not watching the movie, what happened before it started...that's a whole other story!). Oh, and finally getting the highest mark for class speeches (surprisingly, mine wasn't on Chris Nolan, it was on Facebook.)

Lowlight of my week: Um, there was a bit of unhappiness circling around my group of friends. Not a good thing!

Bring on next week...

Week #2 in summary...! I think you know what rocked my world this week...Inception!

Just so you know, the whole 'Out of the Preview Drawer...' category has gone out the window because the previews are dwindling down to nothing. Sorry. And I am rewatching more than one movie a week. That is not my fault. And sorry that the posts have been late, but things are complicated on the internet front.
What did I watch this week?

  • Pan's Labyrinth (2006) A freaky horror/fairytale that scared the crumbs out of me. But not my Mum. 8/10

  • Valentine's Day (2010) It has more stars than the heavens above but this is a pretty mediocre story about the day of love. Cool rhyme, huh? Probably cooler than the movie was. 5/10

  • Crazy Heart (2009) Jeff Bridges in his Oscar winning role. He was bloody good in this movie, too. But the rest of the movie didn't fare quite so well. 6/10

  • Memento (2000) Rewatched. This, until the day after, was my favourite film of all time. But then, you know, I saw another great Nolan film...10/10

  • Inception (2010) The worst movie of the year. Just joking!! Favourite movie of all time!! And the day I first saw it may have been the greatest day of my life!! 10/10

  • 42nd Street (1933) Returning to my old movie roots. This time with a brilliant musical from the days of the Great Depression. 7/10

  • Match Point (2005) Woody Allen. Why did I even bother with this film? And why do I keep going back to watch Woody Allen movies?! 4/10

Okay seven films in seven days...that's more like it. Pretty mediocre week, but oh, there was INCEPTION!! That movie changed my life!

Best movie?? Inception. Duh. Christopher Nolan has the brains of 50million geniuses.

Worst movie?? Match Point, it would seem this week.

Next weeks post coming soon!
