Late Night Thoughts (in the morning) #3 The Crucible, Daniel Day-Lewis Feels and Life Crisis

-This past couple of weeks have been kind of ridiculous.

-I'm sorry that I always talk about school, but school is literally all that happens in my life right now.

IDK, you'd probably have to watch it to see how Oscar worthy my performance was.

-So we finally performed The Crucible on Wednesday night. I managed to remember all of my lines, which was a plus. But the biggest plus was that I managed to cry some fake tears at the very end. Maybe I should become an actress now, I dunno. Watching the performance on video was kinda weird but I think we all did well enough. It went the full Daniel Day-Lewis and Joan Allen.



-Anyway, the end of The Crucible was a relief (I think the earliest I left school in the past week was at 4.30pm, and I literally stayed 13 hours at school on the Tuesday), but it was also pretty sad. For one thing, that was my last performance in what was easily my favourite class, and it will probably be my last stab at acting, ever. Which spurred off my next big crisis of the week...

-Okay, so there's only three days left of high school for my entire life (with exams coming after). Yes, I'm okay with going to Uni for the next three/four/five years (depending on whether I do postgrad) but bloody hell I have no idea of what I want to be. It is not that I don't have anything I want to be, it is that I want to be everything. Yes, I'd like to act. I'd also like to direct. I'd also like to write. I'd also like to organise film festivals. Just anything to do with performing or writing or film, I would like to do. Which is not the easiest when you live in New Zealand, and especially because I'm not doing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Film or a Theatre and Film degree. But it is really too late now. I'll be better off doing my Bachelor of Arts and seeing where that gets me. Hopefully it'll get me everywhere I want to be.

-Seriously, I'm having about 50 panic attacks a day about this.

-But some good did come out of The Crucible, which is my new found "Daniel Day-Lewis feels". It is kind of strange how obsessed I am with this man currently. Just in the past two weeks I have watched Gangs of New York, The Boxer and My Beautiful Laundrette, all of which I really liked. I really wish I was Daniel Day-Lewis. Or that I could just meet him. He's a fascinating man.

-And yeah. I bought 12 DVDs the other day at our annual market day (or "National Viking Day" as it is laughably called). I bought Gangs of New York, Taxi Driver, Babel, Gone Baby Gone, Marie Antoinette, The Lookout, Casino, Heat, The Contender, Michael Clayton, Chronicle and Blood Diamond. Which takes my DVD count up to around 280. How am I going to get these all to Christchurch next year?

-I didn't manage to watch all that many movies. I saw World War Z, which was average. Then Gangs of New York, which I did like despite the fact that it was very long and Cameron Diaz was just...eh. Out of the mound of DVDs I bought, I bought The Contender purely because Joan Allen was in it, and it turned out to be excellent. She's so awesome. Man of Steel was next up, and while it was mildly entertaining, I feel like they'll do a lot better next time around. Luckily, a channel here is having this little Daniel Day-Lewis series and they started off with The Boxer, which was pretty alright, but I'm particularly looking forward to seeing In the Name of the Father this weekend. I finally got around to watching Southland Tales, and that was pretty much the most bizarre film I've ever seen. Some of it made sense, but most of it didn't. Particularly that scene in the middle with Justin Timberlake. Yeah, that was weird. And last night I saw My Beautiful Laundrette, one of DDL's earliest films and he was lovely in it.

-And in the true Halloween spirit I watched the original Carrie. I don't understand why I took such a shine to that when I was 11 years old, but it is still such a damn good movie.

-I see The Counselor didn't get the best reviews. Are we talking future cult classic in the making or just a crappy film?

-Speaking of Michael Fassbender, apparently he's filming in New Zealand, but down closer to Christchurch. He could've been more considerate and waited until next year...

-And let's just end this by saying that I need to see 12 Years a Slave.
