The Last Links Post

I don't really like putting labels on things saying "this is the last time I'll ever do it", but alas, it must be done. One of my favourite things about blogging has been sharing the work that other people have been doing. While I will still find a little time to read my favourite blogs, I decided to dedicate one last post to some of the highlights from other people's blogs that I've seen in the past few years. I've gone through my previous lot of links posts to pick out my favourites, so surely there'll be some gems missing but here are some highlights from the past:

In March 2012, Alex at And So It Begins wondered why there weren't many female cinematographers. Gave me an idea.

In August 2012, Bacholerotte director Leslye Headland wrote a guest piece on Film Experience called "Growing Up Cinephile". One day I'll write one of these of my own.

In December 2011, Corey at Just Atad wrote a defence for War Horse. Never before have I defended a film like that, and Corey gets everything right.

In March 2012, Jandy at Row Three ranked all 72 of the Best Picture winners she'd seen. Such an epic list which gave me a bit of inspiration for something I could tackle in the future.

In December 2012, Jessica at The Velvet Cafe wondered where all the film lovers had gone and where all of the snarky plot hole spotters came from.

In September 2011, Scott at Front Room Cinema made an infographic of the difference between a "movie" and a "film".

In February 2012, Max at Anomalous Material wrote a list of "not the best films of the 2000s".

In February 2012, Sati at Cinematic Corner shared 48 hidden images in Black Swan - I rewatched it the other day and was amazed by how much was hidden.

In November 2011, Steven at Surrender to the Void looked at the career of Jena Malone, complete with her best performances.

In October 2011, The Kid in the Front Row had inspirational words of how we must defeat our inner critic.

In March 2012, Nikhat at Being Norma Jeane asked whether films can shock us into liking them (I've also gotta highlight this post of screenshots of Ralph Fiennes in Quiz Show from August 2011, which was pretty much my favourite thing ever)

In July 2011, Tyler at Southern Vision shared his ten best countries for film production in the world.

In July 2011, Cherokee at Can You Dig It wrote about her childhood feminist hero was Trinity from The Matrix

In April 2012, Univarn at A Life in Equinox wrote about how blogging has to be pushed aside (pretty much what is happening to me now).

In October 2012, Anna at Defiant Success shared her favourite blokes from across the pond. Both a good list and good eye candy in one.

Between 2011 and 2012, Lesya at Eternity of Dream hosted a few "In Genres" blogathons which featured a lot of great recommendations.

In January 2013, Mettel at Mettel Ray's Movie Blog wrote a post on how humiliation is a downfall of modern comedies.

In October 2011, Ryan at The Matinee reflected on how his taste has changed throughout the years. (Ryan also wrote the sweetest tribute to the site which had my Mum in tears. So very lucky.)

In July 2012, Mette at Lime Reviews and Strawberry Confessions wrote a perfect post on how she'd been getting a bit confuzzled about watching movies.

Again, this is not a definitive list. I just wanted to avoid reviews and look at some of the great opinions that have come through - but I really am thankful to every single one of you for being great inspirations for me. What are some of your favourite posts from here?

  4. I stopped to read the post you mentioned, the ones I hadn't read yet. I loved the one in Velvet Cafe, because I often wonder the same. I've heard about the blog before, but never really took the time to see it. Now I most definitely will.
