Tuesday Links and Other Stuff #36

What I'm watching tonight...

Yay for the holidays. It means that I can watch a lot without feeling bad about it. So even What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Dictator and The Raven - three films which I have zero interest in - seem like a good night.

Video of the week...

I've always loved these 'Honest Trailers', and this The Avengers one is no exception. So many laughs to be had.

Blog of the month...

Wow, a new month has rolled around. The blog that gets to grace my sidebar for the next month is Whoa, This is Heavy! Helmed by Asrap, this is a pretty funny blog, and also, Asrap has the best comments. So go check it out!

Links...
I actually haven't heard that much about The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but Nick over at Anomalous Material has given it a good review. The book is rather swell, too.

One film that continues to elude me is Pariah, which Stephanie quite liked.

All these blogging meet-ups have got me kind of jealous. Nick of Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob got to hang with Tom Clift and James Blake Ewing, and it sounds like an interesting time.

If you haven't already, go and wish Alex and his blog And So It Begins a very happy FIFTH blogiversary.

JBT at Big Thoughts From a Small Mind ponders over how underrated Kelly MacDonald is. I couldn't agree more.

Jessica had a bit of a rough time watching documentary Bully.

Rachel at Reel Insight seemed to quite enjoy Pitch Perfect. Surprisingly, I quite want to see the film, but Looper means more to me than that one, and I can't even get to see Looper. Sigh. DVD time.

Final word...
An actor/actress you find criminally underrated?

Criminally unknown and underrated- Ben Whishaw.

    1. Yes to Ewan McGregor! And I've loved Ben Whishaw since I saw Bright Star.

  2. Aww, getting featured here is like getting featured in Total Film or Empire magazine! So thanks a gazillion!!

I'd say Bill Murray who just celebrated his birthday is very underrated. He is a genuine star, but I still feel he's not appreciated as much as he should be. Other than, just on top my head, would be Judy Greer. Always the best friend, but a lovely one that! Darn, I just indirectly admitted I watch rom-coms by saying her name ;P.

    1. You're more than welcome!

Judy Greer is fantastic. She's always the best thing about all of her films.

  3. There are several actors I like that have yet to get their due in Hollywood. Two of them are Ben Whishaw and Idris Elba. (I contribute their respective shows The Hour and Luther for getting me interested in them in the first place.) I mean, yeah, they've got a few cushy supporting roles either under their belts or lined up for them, but I want them to get leading man status. (Well, Whishaw sort of already did with Bright Star, but whatever.)

    1. I agree with both of those choices. Ben Whishaw was great in Bright Star.

  4. Thanks for the link love! I hope you get the chance to watch it. And then spread the word around among your friends. I had my 18 year old watch it and she got her friends to see it and so on. (and they all seem to have reacted more or less like me). It's an essential film to watch either you're a parent or a child.

    1. You're welcome! I hope I get to see it, too, and I will be recommending it.

  5. Jena Malone! She doesn't get enough love from the mainstream and she's better than nearly every actress 30 and under who are working in Hollywood.

  6. Since Jude Law has 2 Oscar nominations, I'll go with Paul Bettany. He can be great, but he hasn't been in many good films lately. I wish he had gotten a Best Supporting Actor campaign for Margin Call last year. :(

    1. I wish Paul Bettany had got a supporting actor campaign for Margin Call, along with the rest of the cast. He was the stand out, though.

  7. Thanks for the link love Stevee!

I just saw Looper and thought Emily Blunt was really great with her part. A bit bummed that she hasn't had a chance to shine in her own movie yet.

    1. I know! Mind you, she *did* have The Young Victoria, which she was fantastic in.
