Tuesday Links and Other Stuff #8

What I'm watching tonight...
I actually don't know what I'm going to watch tonight. There's absolutely nothing coming out on DVD this week, so I have nothing that I urgently have to watch. But I do have Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby from Fatso, Memoirs of a Geisha, Les Miserables and The English Patient from my friend and Black Narcissus from my own collection to watch soon enough. I'll probably just end up rewatching something because I'm lazy.  I don't know, I'll just watch whatever.

Video of the week...

Yup, another 2011 retrospective video. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for these montages. I wish I had the patience to do them. This one is called 2011: The Cinescape, which is one I've been waiting for since last year's one. It is extremely well-edited. I'm jealous of whoever did this!

A bit of randomness...

Well, it is 2012, which means I should get some new year's resolutions down on paper (or the internet...whichever way you want to put it). So here are some:
-Watch at least 300 new-to-me films.
-See The Dark Knight Rises on opening night. I will pay big bucks just so I have a ride there.
-Get my top-secret project up and running before the middle of the year.
-Try and get my restricted drivers license (but we all know that won't happen since I suck at driving).
-Watch more foreign films.
-Watch some more TV shows. Like Downton Abbey, Boardwalk Empire (hopefully) and Mildred Pierce (again, hopefully). Plus the next seasons of The Walking Dead and True Blood.
-Make the blog better.
-Pass NCEA Level 2.

Links...
Ruth @ "...let's be splendid about this..." reviews Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin, which I am going to see at the end of this week. But we all know that I'm really looking forward to the other Spielberg film!

Diana @ Aziza's Picks reviews Bridesmaids, which I wasn't crazy over, but I do agree with her a bit. And I agree - we should all listen to Megan.

James @ Cinema Sights reviews Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, a film which I'd desperately like to see, but think I might get a bit confused by. I do like a good character study, though!

There have been a few top 10s of 2011 floating around, but Bonjour Tristesse has given us their Best Foreign Films of 2011. I haven't actually seen any of them, but there are a few that I want to see!

Nikhat @ Being Norma Jeane shows us all what we have to look forward to in 2012. Including Christ Nolan and Quentin Tarantino in THE SAME YEAR!!!! I'm going to die of happiness.

Andy @ Andy Buckle's Film Emporium didn't like The Iron Lady. I think it looks like garbage, just with Meryl Streep in it.

Ryan @ The Matinee looks at 2011 cinema through the best shots. Thee were some great ones...except most of them came from one movie (The Tree of Life).

Nick @ Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob finished his 60/60 project with a letter to his readers. All I can say is amen to all of what he said.

Final word:
I shared my resolutions, so what are yours?

  1. Great resolutions, 300 new movies is HUGE but I am sure you can pull it off (I certainly can't and won't). Thanks for the link! Have a nice day and a great 2012!

  2. Memoirs of a Geisha was extremely disappointing to me. Though I liked the film a lot more than the book (I really couldn't stand the book...), it just lacked something (and this is coming from someone who LOVES Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi).

Black Narcissus is a gem of a film, and I can go on about it until the cows come home (I really could).

I've seen that you just checked out Repulsion. LOVE that film. Completely forgot to add it to my favourite film list (have no idea why it passed me by), but I'm remembering a lot of films now that I should have included...

On a completely different note, happy new year, Stevee!

  3. You watched over 300 last year didn't you? Or did that include some re-watches as well? Cheers for the link! And I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the other Spielberg film ;D

  4. Is the top secret project a Kiwi Cast? Sorry I can't help throwing around the word Kiwi it makes everything sound so darn cute.

Good luck with the Drivers Licence, I know frustrating it is not having it.

  7. Thank you for the link.
I will see 300 films minimum also. Also I shall keep track of the number of films. And I will sort my life out. And I will actually read all the books I buy.

  9. Those are some nice 2012 resolutions Stevee! 300 movies is an average of 6 a week, that's incredible! Happy new year :)

  10. Aziza - I'm doubtful, considering how this year will be really hard at school!

Cherokee - You're the second person I've heard that from. IDK, I'll watch it some day.
Well, I'll have to watch it then :P
    Repulsion was quite good...very unsettling.
And thank you, same to you!

Ruth - That was including rewatches. I watched 282 new-to-me films last year.
    And I bet I will!

Joel - Haha, no it's not, sorry. It is something much better (I think so anyway).
    It is pretty frustrating :/

Bonjour Tristesse - And I'll be using your site as a guideline :)

Scott - I definitely hope they work out!

Nikhat - I will sort my life out too. And I will read Jane Eyre, which I bought three years ago. I'm only up to page 100-and-something. Not doing well.

    Andy - I will watch it soon-ish!

Castor - Golly, it is! With Tuesday movie nights, I should have no problemo!
